PTC Asia: ContiTech Provides Industry with Customized Solutions from a Single Source

Whether it’s a question of air springs, drive belts, or hoses, ContiTech offers the industry customized solutions from a single source. At PTC Asia, from November 1–4, 2016 in Shanghai, the international technology company will show its wide-ranging industrial expertise. This ranges from the textile, foodstuffs, and agricultural industry to renewable energies and ventilation systems, not forgetting intralogistics and railway engineering. For this purpose, ContiTech has fire-resistant air actuators, heavy-duty timing belts, and extremely flexible and light transfer hoses in its product range. At booth C3-1 in Hall E3, trade show visitors will learn more about innovations that can be individually adapted to customer requirements.

Air actuators in pantographs fulfill strict fire protection requirements

In railway engineering, air actuators from ContiTech ensure a constant contact pressure during power transmission in pantographs. The rubber specialist has now set a new standard in safety: recently, it has been possible to use an extremely fire-resistant material to produce these air actuators and therefore meet the strict requirements of the new European fire protection standard EN 45545 in accordance with the highest requirement class “Hazard Level 3” (HL3).

Across the world, the use of rail vehicles as a means of transport is increasing. This includes China: by 2020, the country’s rail network is to be expanded by 30,000 km, mainly with high-speed lines along which trains with diamond pantographs can travel. These power supply units transmit the power from the overhead line to the rail cars, supplying the electric motor, electronic controller, and on-board systems with electricity. As central pneumatic drive components, the ContiTech air actuators generate the right pressure required for contact between the conductor lines and the overhead line.

Drive belts for the heavy-duty sector

The drive solutions from ContiTech meet the highest requirements for industrial applications and can demonstrate their strengths across the entire breadth of the plant and mechanical engineering industry. With the Synchroforce Carbon, ContiTech has added a new heavy-duty timing belt to its range, one that proves impressive at high acceleration and shock loading. The belt is made from a temperature-resistant rubber compound with a carbon tensile member. This makes it extremely low-stretch and stable at very high torque levels. Thanks to these properties, the Synchroforce Carbon is the strongest rubber timing belt in the ContiTech range. The innovative drive belt is electrically conductive in accordance with ISO 9563 and stands out thanks to a temperature resistance from -30°C to +130°C.

With the FO Pioneer, ContiTech has also developed one of the most powerful V-belts on the market. Thanks to its high-performance EPDM compound, friction-locked drives are now possible even in extreme temperature ranges between -40°C and +120°C. The FO Pioneer is resistant to dust and tropical climates, and is also conductive as per ISO 1813 as well as partially oil resistant. It also has a considerably longer service life than conventional open-flanked V-belts and can be used throughout the entire mechanical engineering industry, even to cost-effectively replace existing drives.

In addition, ContiTech presents the recently developed drive calculation software Conti Professional, an introduction to which it will offer customers at the trade fair. The free software is available online here.

Customized hose solutions

In addition to flexible and dimensionally stable oil lines, ContiTech also offers the transfer hose Conti Excelsus for use in the intralogistics industry. This hose is designed for high temperatures. Depending on the design, the hose can withstand temperatures of up to 250°C, supplies the turbocharger with cooling water and lubricating oil, and is also used in its control system. It is also suitable for transporting air, for example, in exhaust systems and as a fuel return line. Its special braid made of a plastic textile, which is resistant to high temperatures and chemicals, makes the hose extremely flexible, and facilitates use in particularly confined and complex installation situations. Thanks to its lightweight design, the transfer hose, which is suitable for high temperatures, also wins approval thanks to a significant weight advantage compared with the PTFE pipes currently used, which are braided with stainless steel. As such, the hose also enables fuel consumption and therefore CO2 emissions to be reduced. Since the hose forms part of a modular system, users can select the best product depending on the application.

Improving safety and cleanliness when handling food and drink is a constant focus of the Chinese foodstuffs industry. Specially developed for use with milk collecting trucks, ContiTech will present a product that guarantees safe and reliable handling of foodstuffs – the blue COLLECTOR foodstuffs hose – at PTC Asia. It is resistant to ozone, weathering, and abrasion and can be cleaned easily.
